Itinerary: 10 Days Self Drive 4WD Tour From Vietnam To Laos - Cross - Border Tour To Laos
This drive starts from Hanoi, cross the border then drive through the most beautiful part of Laos, drive back to Vietnam by the Northwestern side.
Day 1: Hanoi – Mai Chau. 170km. Home-stay.
Pickup and transfer to our garage where you will take the car and start the first day drive to the Northwestern of Hanoi. Easy paved trails & sometimes dirt roads, nice scenery along the Da river and bamboo forest. Dinner and overnight at home-stay with Thai family.
Day 2: Mai Chau – Laos border – Samnua. 227km. Guest House.
Say goodbye to the family and head down to Thanh Hoa province. Driving on a beautiful trail along the Ma river until Nameo Town where we cross the border to get to Laos. The landscape suddenly changed in Laos side, quiet road, nice seenery, drive up/down many mountain passes. Dinner in town, overnight at mini hotel in Samnua.
Day 3: Samnuea – Xieng Khoang (Plain of Jars). 240 km. Hotel.
A nice day drive over many hills and mountain passes. Visit some small Hmong villages on the way. Before arrive in Xieng Khoang, we will make a visit to the famous Plain Of Jars. Dinner in town, overnight at hotel.
Day 4: Xieng Khoang – Luang Prabang. 250km. hotel.
Start early as we have a long day drive today. Still very hilly all the way to Luangprabang. Some stops for photo of very nice view over high mountains and deep valley. Arrive late in the afternoon. Dinner in town, overnight at hotel.
Day 5. Luangprabang.
Whole day free time to discover the ancient city of Luangprabang, a nice city with lovely food and plenty of things to visit. Meals by your own, overnight at hotel.
Day 6: Luangprabang – Muang Khoa. 240km, guesthouse.
Leaving the beautiful city of Luang, we head up closer to the Northwest of Vietnam, another long day but beautiful, many stops to visit the villages of Hmong & Thai peoples. Dinner/overnight at hotel.
Day 7: Muang Khua – Vietnam border – Dien Bien Phu. 170 km. hotel.
Head to the East where we will cross the border to get back to Vietnam. The landscape change quickly once after the border, flat plain with rice fields and tree lines. Drive all the way down hill through the country of Thai peoples until the spectacular valley of Dien Bien Phu where we will stop for the night. Dinner in town, overnight at hotel.
Day 8: Dien Bien Phu – Son La. 180km. hotel.
Make a visit to the historical remain of French battle field during the Indochina War. Start riding down to the South to get to Son La. Drive up/down many high passes, many stop on the beautiful Pha Din mountain pass for photo and visit to the village of Black Thai/Hmong peoples. Dinner in town, overnight at hotel.
Day 9: Son La – Phu Yen. 201km. hotel
Keep driving down hill to get the bank of the Da River then keep following along the Hoang Lien high mountain ranger until the valley of Phu Yen. Dinner in town, overnight at hotel
Day 10: Phu Yen – Hanoi. 170km. tour finished.
Leaving the high mountain of the Northwestern region, we head down to the South to get back to Hanoi, follow the bank of the Red River until Hanoi. We end the trip in Hanoi.
