Itinerary: 11 Days 4x4 Tours Vietnam, 4WD Self Drive Tours Vietnam
…The Northern mountainous areas of Ba Be Lake, Cao Bang and Ha Giang offer breathtaking views and interesting subcultures. It is the least traveled area of the north and attracts hardier travelers craving a glimpse of some of the more remote ethnic minority people.
Day 1: Hanoi – Mai Chau. 180km. 6 hr drive.
Meeting at your hotel then transfer to the starting point at the outskirt of Hanoi, where you will take the car, and start your first day drive to Mai Chau. Leaving Hanoi and breaking out of the delta plains, we pass through endless limestone karts scenery as we travel up to the Northwestern region, the extensive farming lands comprising a sea of paddy fields split by tree-lined roads. We mostly drive on the small village roads along the Da river and lake. Arrive in Mai Chau in late afternoon, overnight on a stilt house of the Thais Minority peoples, dinner with the family.
Day 2: Mai Chau – Son La. 200km. 6hr drive.
We drive on a section of 60 km of the forgotten French road that hike up & drops down on the hill side of a huge valley of the Black River Reservoir, the route has plenty of challenging surface and is prone to land-slides, much of the area is inhabited by Kinh and both Black and White Thai ethnics. Lunch in a local restaurant before getting back on the good road that lead strait to Son La Town. Dinner in town, overnight at hotel.
Day 3: Son La – Mu Cang Chai 190km. 6hr drive.
We have today a challenging mountain roads day, the first part is paved road then dirt track until the place where we stop for lunch in a village. Enjoy the Hot Spring then continue the drive through the rural areas with beautiful rice fields along the beautiful road that lead up to Mu Cang Chai. Dinner and overnight at home-stay (Family of Thai Peoples)
Day 4: Mu Cang Chai – Sapa 180km. 5hr drive.
Today we head straight towards the Great Hoang Lien Mountain range. The massive mountain range dominates the road until finally we must make a splendid climb up to the top of the highest road pass in Vietnam (Tram Ton Pass) crossing into Lao Cai Province at over 2000m, the views looks out over the main range for miles and miles. Dinner and overnight at hotel in Sapa.
Day 5: Sapa. Free time to relax or discover the area of Sapa. Meals by your own, overnight at hotel.
Day 6: Sapa – Bac Ha – Hagiang 270km, 8 hr drive.
We start a long day today. From Sapa driving down to Lao Cai Town, a short stop to visit the Chinese border. Continue to Bac Ha by taking a small road going along the Chinese border, during your drive, you will have chances to visit many roadside ethnic villages and markets. Stop for lunch in Bac Ha town. Arrive in Ha Giang in the afternoon, Dinner and overnight at a small resort.
Day 7: Ha Giang – Meo Vac 180km, 7 hr drive.
Dong Van Town is located in the heart of Dong Van Rock Plateau, which was recognized as part of the Global Geo-Park Network, the Dong Van old quarter is home to age old and unique architecture.
Today’s drive must be highlights of the trip as we will drive through one of the most remote land in Vietnam where are special with many ethnic groups with their unique cultures. Many high mountain passes as the “Heaven Gate” in Quan Ba, Rock Plateau and the Vuong palace in Dong Van. Ma Pi Leng Pass. Arrive in Meo vac in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight at hotel.
Day 8: Meo Vac – Babe, 180km, 6hr drive.
After breakfast, We leave Meo Vac for Ba Be. The scenic route climbs over many Passes where we can enjoy beautiful mountain ranges and the Nho Que river – Just an amazing place to be, lunch in a local restaurant in Bao Lac. After 30 km drive on paved road after Bao Lac, we will take a small beautiful dirt trail going thought the jungle, we drive across many streams and rivers, a great day for off-road drive. Continue to Babe lake where the landscape is amazing and the home stay is another unique experience. Dinner and overnight in home- stay of a Tay family.
Day 9: Babe – Cao Bang. 130km. 3 hr drive
Ba Be is Vietnam’s largest natural lake and is now the centrepiece of an extensive National Park. The park and the surrounding area is limestone country, so lakes, waterfalls, caves and unusual rock formations abound. The whole area is richly forested and home to many ethnic minority communities.
Making a boat trip to discover the most beautiful nature lake in Vietnam, return to the village and drive to Cao Bang Town, arrive in Cao Bang at the end of the afternoon. Diner in town, night at hotel.
Day 10: Cao Bang – Quang Hoa – Ban Gioc – Cao Bang 190km.
We head up North to Ban Gioc Water Fall located at the border in between Viet Nam and China. Visit the most beautiful waterfall and lunch before taking a small dirt trail to get back to Cao Bang for 2nd night.
Day 11: Cao Bang – Lang Son – Hanoi. 250km, 7hr drive.
Leaving Cao Bang, we continue driving on a spectacular small road that go along the Chinese border until Lang Son, stop for lunch then drive on a good road back to Hanoi. Tour finish at the garage of our tour company.
